Kerri Alessi has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of transactional real estate, with a primary focus in commercial leasing. Kerri represents landlords and tenants in office and retail leasing transactions both in the New York City metropolitan area and nationwide. In connection with such representation, Kerri counsels her clients on the wide variety of issues that arise in the leasing arena and is well versed on all facets of complex leasing issues. Kerri also has extensive experience in negotiating sublease transactions, brokerage agreements, surrender agreements, telecommunications agreements, access and license agreements, and other transactional real estate matters. Peter Anderson is a shareholder with Boughton Law Corporation in Vancouver, British Columbia. His legal practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, with a primary emphasis on commercial lease negotiating and drafting, representing both landlords and tenants. His commercial leasing practice involves all aspects of commercial leasing including office, retail, industrial and mixed-use projects, from small scale projects to regional shopping centers and office tower complexes. Representative projects include shopping centers and business parks in the Vancouver lower mainland and elsewhere across Canada, as well as mixed-use office/retail complexes. Mr. Anderson acts for several major landlords and asset/property management companies in local and national transactions, as well as a number of local and national tenants. He is a regular presenter at the Vancouver Real Estate Strategy & Leasing Conference.

Marc Bergoffen focuses on a variety of matters with an emphasis on the acquisition, disposition, management, leasing, and financing of various real estate asset types, including retail, office and industrial. He has significant experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex lease transactions for his retail clients. His 20+ years of experience representing both landlords and tenants gives him a holistic view of the leasing process and insight into the latest trends and issues in the retail arena. In addition to urban retail, shopping centers and enclosed mall clients, Mr. Bergoffen has built a notable restaurant practice, often representing owners throughout the life cycle of their business, from initial fundraising to entity creation to operations. He represents clients in the negotiation and preparation of various real estate documents relating to the development of solar energy facilities. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, past Chair of the Real Property Section and is active in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the ICSC and the Bar Association of Montgomery County, MD. Ann Lisa (“A.L.”) Braun is vice president and assistant general counsel of Brandywine Realty Trust, headquartered in Radnor, PA. Ms. Braun is the managing attorney for all lease transactions across its portfolio, and is responsible for creating all standard lease documents. Prior to joining Brandywine, Ms. Braun was a real estate partner at LeClairRyan, representing primarily landlords and tenants nationwide for office, retail, flex, industrial, and warehouse spaces. Steve Cohen recently retired as associate general counsel for Verizon Communications. At Verizon, Steve was responsible for legal matters involving Verizon’s portfolio of over 3,000 buildings. He led a team that handled real estate sales, purchases, leases, data center development, mixed use commercial condominium projects, financing, construction, zoning and land use, and dispute resolution. Mr. Cohen co-authored The Effect of Telecommunications Laws and Regulations on Real Property Interests, published by LexisNexis in the treatise Powell on Real Property. He is a LEED Accredited Professional. Prior to joining Verizon, he practiced real estate law with Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman) and Kaye Scholer (now Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer). Desiderio, Duane Infrastructure: Planning Today for a Smarter Tomorrow

Duane J. Desiderio is Senior Vice President and Counsel with The Real Estate Roundtable, the Washington, D.C. advocacy organization which represents the leaders of the nation’s top publicly-held and privately-owned real estate ownership, development, financing, and management firms. He has helped shape major federal laws, regulations, and guidelines at the nexus of commercial real estate, energy, and sustainability policy for the past 15 years. Mr. Desiderio’s issues portfolio emphasizes energy, environmental, immigration, housing, infrastructure, and land use policy. He manages The Roundtable’s advocacy on these matters with The White House, Congress, and executive branch agencies. He is the long-time staff lead for The Roundtable’s Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), which convenes the executives driving corporate sustainability programs in the U.S. commercial real estate sector. He has testified before Congress and prepared witnesses for numerous Congressional hearings on matters that impact the built environment.

Prior to joining The Real Estate Roundtable, Mr. Desiderio was a vice president at the National Association of Home Builders where he developed and managed its nationwide litigation program. His tenure resulted in over 50 reported opinions in federal and state courts, including a winning decision in NAHB v. Defenders of Wildlife, 551 U.S. 664 (2007). He is formerly associated with the law firm Rogers and Wells (now Clifford Chance) in its New York City and Washington, D.C. offices.

Richard D. Eckhard is a real estate attorney whose practice focuses on office and retail real estate development, leasing, acquisition, and disposition. He represents national and regional landlords and tenants in connection with office buildings, shopping centers and mixed–use properties. He also handles synthetic and leveraged leases. Mr. Eckhard is the former practice group leader of the Tampa Real Estate Group. Mr. Eckhard is chair of The Florida Bar Real Property Leasing Committee. Mr. Eckhard is board certified in real estate law in Florida and is a member of the Real Estate Advisory Board of Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Florida.

Hektoen is an attorney with extensive experience including acquisition, sale, development, financing and leasing of commercial, hotels, telecommunication tower, agricultural and industrial properties. Heller, Richard From Ghost Town to Boom Town: Re-Emerging Downtowns

Richard Heller served as senior vice president and general counsel for Legal Sea Foods, a nationally acclaimed seafood and restaurant company, from 2003-2020. Mr. Heller was responsible for employment matters, business planning and commercial real estate (including financing, acquisition, and sale, and commercial leasing). He is currently of counsel at Sherin and Lodgen LLP, a Boston law firm with an extensive real estate and hospitality law practice. He is a co-founder and co-principal of Pineapple Hospitality Consulting Group LLC, a consulting firm which provides consulting services to restaurants and food service businesses. Mr. Heller is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U. S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the Leasing Committee of the Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts. He is a also a member of the Board of Trustees of JVS and the Board of Trustees of the New England College of Optometry.  


Hess, Jeffery L. Infrastructure: Planning Today for a Smarter Tomorrow

Jeff Hess is a partner/developer with Hawkins, formerly, Hawkins Companies LLC, a national commercial real estate development company. He has been with Hawkins and its affiliates since 1993, when he was the company’s first general counsel. Mr. Hess became COO/CLO in 2000 overseeing the legal and development operations, from site selection to construction. Prior to his employment with Hawkins, Jeff worked for over 15 years as a CA licensed general contractor, the construction supervisor for Georgia Pacific's northern California lumber operations, and an adult education instructor. He has been a city and county planning commissioner, lobbyist, and advisor to the Governor and legislature of California. He also spent four years in the finance industry as a branch manager. After graduation from law school, he clerked for Judge Thomas Nelson of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Cathy Silak of the Idaho Supreme Court.

Lydia Lawless is known for handling high-profile cases in both the trial and appellate courts. With extensive experience conducting sensitive investigations involving a variety of subjects and transactions, Lydia represents commercial clients in corporate investigations and high-stakes business disputes. Before joining her firm, Lydia served as Maryland Bar Counsel. She was the youngest person and the first woman to be appointed to the role.

Jeff Moerdler heads Mintz’s real estate and communications practices in New York and has significant experience in general commercial real estate law. His practice includes acquisitions, sales, development, leasing, and borrower’s side financing. Katherine M. Noonan is the practice leader of Ballard Spahr's Real Estate Development and Transactions Group. Katie has significant experience representing landlords and tenants in office, retail, biotech, and industrial leasing matters. Katie represents developers in mixed-use projects, including analyzing project structure and the drafting, negotiation, and recordation of condominium documents. Katie works with developer and association clients with regard to ongoing compliance with governing documents and project operations. She has assisted numerous clients on local law compliance in the disposition of multifamily residential projects, including rent control compliance. She focuses specifically on rights of first refusal in Montgomery County and Prince George's County, Md., as well as the District of Columbia's Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA). Karen O’Malley is a real estate attorney who represents a diverse range of clients, including large public and private real estate companies, as well as some smaller businesses and non-profits. Her practice currently focuses on retail and office leasing within mixed-used properties. In the retail context, she often counsels landlords leasing to national, regional and local tenants, anchor and junior anchor retailers, entertainment facilities, and restaurants. In the office context, she represents landlords and tenants in connection with office building leases, including lease arrangements for corporate headquarters and mixed-use developments. George N. Papageorge is a global real estate executive with a highly successful track record of driving growth in public companies, private equity and creative agencies. An attorney by trade, he has used this background to manage large leasing, design, and legal teams over his 25+ year career. His client work has included luxury hotel operators The Fairmont and Four Seasons. He has held senior roles at Westfield Corporation US and the Queensland Investment Corporation-Australia, QIC, during his career. He currently works with L Catterton, the largest consumer private equity company in the world, a joint venture with LVMH and Group Arnault.
